  • Thursday, Sept. 16 Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee will host the 21st Annual Commitment to Justice Awards at the Intercontinental Milwaukee, 139 E. Kilbourn Ave from 6 to 8 p.m. This year Les Weil, founder of the project ripple effect and the Zink Zebra Foundation will be honored with the Lifelong Commitment to Justice Award; Karyn Rotker, senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin Foundation and Edward Fallone, counsel at Gonzalez, Saggio & Harlan LLP and associate professor at Marquette University Law School well accept the President’s Award. Adam Helt-Baldwin, construction manager at Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity will be honored with the Future of Change Award and Nadine Retzlaff, owner of the Health and Energy Center of Wisconsin will receive A. David Scwartz Business Humanitarian Award. Tickets are $45 if purchased before Sept. 15 and $50 the day of the event.   • Thursday, Sept. 16 and Friday, Sept. 17 Ryan Persitza of KKOM and Commercial Realty Advisors and Kenneth Wolfe of Raymond James Financial in coordination with www.workingbikes.org will host a three day bike drive to benefit and provide bicycles to charity organizations in the Gulf Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Angola, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, and Peru. Those interested can drop off a used or unwanted bite at the Petit National Ice Center from 4 to 7 p.m. or at the Urban Ecology Center on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Working Bikes ships donated bicycles to countries where they can be used as a primary means of transportation. The organization also provides detailed plans on how to convert bicycles in to machines used for pumping water, generating electricity for ultra violet water purification or for attaching grinders for food and farming.
