Nonprofit calendar of events

  • Friday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 5 is the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Shop registration period. Registration for families who would like to receive toys will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. “We’ve already pre-registered more than 8,000 children to receive toys this Christmas, but there are almost 2,700 families who received letters for express registration who have not pre-registered. Families must have an appointment to pick up toys for their children. Receiving a letter does not register you to receive toys,” Debra Lewis, director of Salvation Army social services said. “Despite a 30 percent increase in emergency assistance, The Salvation Army is committed to providing Christmas assistance to families in need,” said Major Jesse G. Collins, Salvation Army Milwaukee County Commander.
