*Saturday, Jan. 12, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity will hold a new volunteer orientation for individuals interested in donating their time. The orientation will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Milwaukee Habitat’s main office, located at 3726 N. Booth St. in Milwaukee. Orientation space is limited, and pre-registration is required. *Monday, Jan. 14, IndependenceFirst Mobility Store will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its store location, 12040 W. Feerick St., Unit N in Wauwatosa. During open houses, area residents can purchase like new equipment such as wheelchairs and bath aids and also donate mobile and medical devices. Donations will be eligible for tax deductions. People attending the open house will be entered into a drawing for an iPod touch and will receive an extra entry for bringing a friend. *Tuesday, Jan. 15, BoardStar Inc. will host a workshop focused on financial oversight. The workshop will cover topics like the role of a board director in managing finances, how a nonprofit board can avoid financial mismanagement and fraud, and what a board should expect from its auditor. Scott Haumersen, managing partner of Wegner LLP, CPAs and Consultants, will lead the discussion. The workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Pathfinders, 4200 N. Holton, Suite 400 in Milwaukee. *Wednesday, Jan. 16, the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network Greater Milwaukee Chapter (YNPN) will hold a January Social Event. YNPN socials are scheduled for every third Wednesday each month. *Saturday, Jan. 19, AMF Bowlero will hold the fifth annual “Strikes for Hope” charity bowling tournament to benefit the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. Cost to participate is $10, which includes bowling and shoe rental expenses. Organizers also request that bowlers raise a minimum of $25 to donate to the cancer center. Bowling rounds will begin at noon and 3 p.m. with registration at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top bowlers and teams that donate the most money. AMF Bowlero is located at 11737 W. Burleigh Ave. in Wauwatosa. Participants can register online at www.strikesforhope.com/index.php/events through Jan. 9.

*Sunday, Jan. 20, the Milwaukee Public Museum will host its Spark! series for caregivers and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Spark! programs offer interactive, sensory exhibit experiences guided by museum educators. Programs include an hour-long museum experience followed by a half hour-long coffee session to allow participants time to socialize and support one another. The programs scheduled for Jan. 20 will focus on life for humans, animals and plants in the Artic. Programs are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and are free of charge, thanks to funding from the Helen Bader Foundation. Participants must pre-register for Spark! and can do so by calling 414-278-2714.
