DreamBikes, a nonprofit used bicycle store recently opened a new location at 2021 A N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Madison-based DreamBikes was created by Trek Bikes in 2008, its mission is to provide quality bikes at affordable prices to those in need, while also giving local teens an opportunity to learn professional skills and life lessons.
Since its inception, DreamBikes has partnered with local Boys and Girls Clubs organizations. DreamBikes’ Milwaukee location is staffed by teens from Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
To be considered for a position at the store, teens had to complete the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Career Launch Program.
“Our collaboration with DreamBikes fits nicely with the goals of our Career Launch Program,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. “Through Career Launch, we want to give young people opportunities to explore a variety of careers and prepare them for the world of work.  At DreamBikes, teens earn a wage and gain rewarding life experiences that can serve as springboards to
careers in marketing, business management, information technology or engineering.”
The Career Launch Program is open to club members ages 13 to 18.
“We are very excited to be able to offer this kind of opportunity to the kids from this area,” said Aaron Rasmussen, general manager for DreamBikes’ Milwaukee store. “(DreamBikes, gives them the opportunity) to learn valuable life lessons and also be part of the movement to get
more people on bikes throughout Milwaukee.
DreamBikes employees receive ongoing training from professional bike technicians and business managers that ranged from learning how to clean and tune up donated bikes to operating retail computer systems.
