MPS still seeking 44 teachers

Milwaukee Public Schools has filled almost all of its 5,000 teaching positions for the fast-approaching school year, but still needs to hire 44 more teachers.

The open positions are mostly in high-need specialties like special education, bilingual special education and science. In addition, a few regular education positions in kindergarten through third grade and high school need to be filled.

MPS is also looking for additional paraprofessional educational assistants and about 100 substitute teachers before traditional calendar schools start classes Sept. 2.

“We’re proud to be more than 99 percent staffed as the school year is set to begin September 2 and we are committed to finding the best and brightest educators for all of our students,” said Karen Jackson, MPS chief human capital officer. “Educators have the power to make an incredible difference in the lives of children in Milwaukee Public Schools and we invite them to join our team of individuals committed to accelerating student achievement.”
