Milwaukee County officials are projecting a 2013 year-end fiscal surplus of $14.3 million, according to a memo Monday from county Comptroller Scott Manske to County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic.

The projected surplus is $8.1 million higher than the $6.2 million surplus projected in October, Manske’s report said.

The surplus was increased by $4.9 million because of a higher payment to the county from Froedtert Hospital.

In addition, Manske said a surplus increase of $3 million is expected for fringe benefits, “due to the continuing decrease in health care costs, and slightly higher contribution revenues for pension and health care, than budgeted.”

The county Treasurer’s office is reporting a surplus increase of $770,000 due to a projected increase in revenue of $555,000 from the interest on delinquent property taxes and a decrease in the expected payment for charges for unpaid personal property taxes of $200,000.
