A Baltimore-based architectural firm is working with Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp. on plans to for a mixed-use development northwest of Water Street and Knapp Street in downtown Milwaukee that would include a move theater, housing and offices.
The firm, InPlace Design has posted site plans for the project on its website.
According to InPlace Design, the project, to be called “Edison Place,” will blend the urban environment with the waterfront.
“Edison Place promises to become the kind of unique destination that will immediately achieve landmark status as Milwaukee’s new urban experience,” the website says. “That downtown connection, along with the planned streetcar line make Edison Street an integral part of an energized and developing downtown Milwaukee community.”
The 20-story, 780,000-square-foot development would include commercial space on the ground floor, along the riverfront. The plans from the InPlace Design website show five floors of office space, eight floors of residential space and six levels of parking.
The street level could feature two restaurants, with 11,000 and 10,400 square feet; a 4,500-square-foot cafe and a health club.
The eight-screen cinema would be located at the southern end of the property, according to the plans on the website.
The development would be built on a 1.24-acre parcel of land Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp. purchased in November for $3.1 million at 1301-1357 N. Edison St., along the Milwaukee River and near the northwest corner of Knapp and Water streets.
Marcus has also submitted an RFP for land Milwaukee County owns, known as “Block 12, Lot B,” to purchase a 1.5-acre site at 210 E. Knapp St. The one-third acre parcel bordered by N. Edison, N. Water and E. Knapp streets.
Brookfield-based Hammes Co. also submitted an RFP for the site in the Park East corridor.
Katie Falvey, vice president of real estate for The Marcus Corp. has previously said she would not comment on plans or proposals that are in the development stages. Falvey could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
