Illinois 3rd worst in U.S. for delinquency, foreclosure

More Illinois home mortgages backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were seriously delinquent or already in foreclosure at the end of 2011 than any state other than Florida and California, according to a report issued Monday.

In Illinois, the 74,028 mortgages that were at least 90 days past due or in foreclosure represented 5.3 percent of all residential mortgages backed in the state by Fannie and Freddie, said the report by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the companies’ conservator. And of that sum, 42,000 were delinquent for at least a year.
