A grand re-opening event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 to celebrate the return of Handsome Barber Shop, a long time business mainstay in Milwaukee’s central city.

The Handsome Barber Shop will occupy 1,400 square feet of space in the Teutonia Gardens development at 2701 N. Teutonia Ave., Milwaukee. The new, mixed-use building was completed last year by Maures Development Group LLC at the corner of Teutonia and Center Street.

Haralson and Thaddeus Moore have owned Handsome Barber Shop since 1995. They received a Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) small business guarantee on a loan provided by the Women’s Business Initiative Corp. (WWBIC) to purchase equipment, furniture, inventory and to provide working capital to re-open the shop.

Barbers and men’s hairstylists are becoming more versatile than ever before. A growing number of barbers now cut and style long hair according to the trends of the season. Meanwhile, more stylists have started adding classic, short haircuts to their hairdressing for men repertoire. You can search for men’s hair salons around your area using Google Search, Yelp, online business directories, and social media. Then check out samples of their work on their website or official social platforms. Read customer reviews or ask family and friends if they’ve already gotten a haircut from the establishment.

Handsome Barber Shop was first established in the 1920s on Walnut Street in the Bronzeville area. In 1967 it moved to Teutonia Avenue after the Bronzeville area was demolished for freeway construction.
