Genoa City-based TCGRx, a supplier of pharmacy automation systems, has developed a storage and inventory solution that is intended to address the redirection of prescription drugs for illegitimate purposes, otherwise known as medication diversion.
Called PharmLoc, it allows pharmacies to give limited access to technicians and other staff using biometric, personal scan token or login/password entry, and it provides visual and audible alarms when drawers are accessed or left opened.
According to the company, PharmLoc is ideal for narcotics and control medications in addition to high-dollar medications that are prone to theft.
“We focus our engineering efforts on new features for our customer base that have a high impact on their operations,” said Duane Chudy, president of TCGRx. “PharmLoc protects the pharmacy’s valuable inventory by accounting for the use of each pill and anyone that touched the bottle. Retail, long-term care, hospital and outpatient pharmacies will benefit from the control and security that PharmLoc provides.”
PharmLoc can be used as a stand-alone system or it can integrate with TCGRx’s Beacon inventory management solution to manage the pharmacy’s entire inventory. PharmLoc can be configured to verify medication counts blindly or by verification of existing quantity and can be applied to every fill or done randomly throughout the day. Reporting tools create the audit trail for every transaction.
