Norwell, Mass.-based Clean Harbors Inc., a provider of environmental services and hazardous waste disposal, recently opened a new plant in Butler.
“We specialize in industrial services, emergency response, waste disposal and remediation,” said Chet Tadych, general manager for the Butler location.
The company employs about 5,000 people on a national scale and about 15 to 25 people in Butler.
“It was by request of our current clients that we set up office here,” Tadych said, “We have a number of existing clients all over the state that expressed interest in a local office. In order to provide them better and additional services, setting up a facility nearby just made sense.”
Prior to January, the closest Clean Harbors facility for Wisconsin clients was located just south of Chicago. Clean Harbors currently has more than 100 locations positioned throughout North America in 36 states and six Canadian provinces, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Worldwide, the company has more than 45,000 customers, including medical facilities, hospitals and utility companies in Wisconsin, Tadych said.
Clean Harbors grew its annual revenues to $242.5 million in 2007.
