DoMKE Photo Challenge extends submission deadline

Organizations:

The DoMKE Photo Challenge, created by a partnership between Historic Milwaukee, Inc. and Art’s Cameras, has extended its photo submission deadline to midnight on Thursday, Sept. 27.

DoMKE, which stands for Doors Open Milwaukee, encourages participants of Doors Open Milwaukee 2 to enter photos they captured during their self-guided and expert-led tours. The second annual city-wide event, presented by Historic Milwaukee, opened some of Milwaukee’s most celebrated historical and architectural landmarks to the public Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23.

The photo challenge, sponsored and judged by Art’s Cameras, is organized in categories such as interiors, exteriors, building details, streetscapes and the faces of Doors Open Milwaukee. The faces of Doors Open Milwaukee will feature photos that highlight participants at the event.

“The photo contest allows us to share with the public at large the really incredible visual details that Milwaukee’s build environment has to share,” said Grace Fuhr, program manager at Historic Milwaukee.

According to Fuhr, last year’s photo challenge was held before the Doors Open event and required contestants to take photos of doors throughout the city. Historic Milwaukee used the photo challenge to promote and spread the word about Doors Open since it was the first event of its kind in Milwaukee.

This year’s challenge will celebrate the success of Doors Open and preserve the event through visual literacy, allowing viewers to appreciate some of Milwaukee’s finer architectural details, Fuhr said.

“This really allows us to utilize these images to let Doors Open educate the masses about Milwaukee’s architecture beyond just the weekend of Doors Open,” Fuhr said.
“It’s just a really great opportunity for people to explore Milwaukee without having to walk outside their door necessarily,” she said.

The grand prize winner of the challenge will receive a Nikon 1 J1 Camera, thanks to Art’s Cameras and Nikon. Art’s Cameras also donated the second-place prize – a PRO Carbon Fiber Tripod with a ball head and a carrying bag. The third place winner will be awarded a family membership to Historic Milwaukee.

All submitted photos will be transferred from the DoMKE Facebook page to Historic Milwaukee’s Facebook page by Monday, Oct. 1. They will also be available for viewing on Historic Milwaukee’s website, http://historicmilwaukee.org/.

Winners will be announced Friday, Oct. 5.
