An affiliate of Piggly Wiggly is proposing a nearly 6,000-square-foot multi-tenant commercial building that would be constructed behind the existing grocery store on South Chase Avenue in Milwaukee.
The new building would go up to eh south of the Piggly Wiggly at 123 W. Oklahoma Ave. Specifically, it would be situated between the grocery store to the north, South Chase Avenue to the east and railroad tracks to the southwest.
The project is expected to cost $1.2 million, according to an application filed with the city.
PJR Properties LLC, an affiliate of Piggly Wiggly Midwest LLC, owns the 8-acre triangular-shaped site near the corner of West Oklahoma Avenue and South Chase Avenue where the grocery store, the proposed project site, a Goodwill and other businesses are located.
Scott Warrington, project manager for Piggly Wiggly Midwest, said the new building would have space for five commercial tenants, though none have been named so far. It would also have between 19-21 parking spaces. Vehicles entering or exiting the site can do so either directly from South Chase Avenue or by using a connecting drive lane to the shopping center.
Project plans are being brought to the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday. Assuming the project receives necessary approvals, construction in the spring, said Warrington.
The proposed project would put to use a vacant and underutilized portion of the commercial parcel, according to a statement of use submitted to the city.
