CFA Society celebrates milestone

The Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Milwaukee will host a 50th anniversary celebration featuring keynote speaker Stuart Varney on Thursday, October 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee.

Varney is a veteran business journalist who hosts FOX Business Network’s “Varney & Co.” and serves as a business contributor and substitute host on FOX News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto.” He will discuss his perspective on the future of the global economy and relate it to the Milwaukee market.

“We’ve been talking about the need to really put out a very prominent speaker for our membership,” said Kristin Lindblom, immediate past president. “Because our normal programming is very educational based, we really wanted this to be a celebration, where there is some educational benefit as well. So we thought more of a personality that people are aware of.”

Thomas Robinson, managing director of Americas operations for the CFA Institute, will also be speaking at the event and will present the CFA Society of Milwaukee with a national honor, the Excellence Award for Most Innovative Project, said Bill McGinnis, current president.

The society, which has 600 members that are mostly in eastern Wisconsin, is affiliated with the global CFA Institute. The majority of local charter holders are members of the CFA Society, McGinnis said.

|CFA Society events, some of which are offered to the public, are held about twice per month. Its members also mentor local college students, culminating with the Global Investment Research Challenge, which aims to teach best practices in equity research.
