Brookfield based Centare Group Ltd. has almost doubled in size over the last three years, growing its revenues by 92 percent. The technology consulting and software application development firm grossed $4.6 million in revenue in 2007.
President and founder Dave Glyzewski attributes the company’s recent successes to a combination of the hot information technology (IT) market and the fact that Centare offers permanent, salaried IT consultant positions, rather than per-project contracts.
Permanent positions help the company attract talent and give it a stronger position in the marketplace, Glyzewski said.
“We have a strong selling point by offering consultants a career rather than just a contract,” he said. “And our clients know that we need to go through a more rigorous screening process than most firms because we’re not just a project/ contract shop. If they use a contract consultant, they have to do their own screening. The (higher standard) helps market our firm.”
To create a positive work environment, promote team building and encourage innovative thinking, Centare consultants meet for quarterly social activities and monthly speaker presentations, Glyzewski said.
“For the most part, our staff is distributed around at the customers’ job sites, so we make sure they can identify with Centare,” he said.
Since technology and software are constantly changing, Centare provides its employees with an education budget. The company gives $2,500 and five extra days off of work to each employee every year to be used toward the education of their choice.
“We have one of the best education programs in the business,” Glyzewski said.
On an annual basis, Centare looks to add two new services to offer to its clients.
“Most people in IT don’t want to get stuck doing the same thing forever,” Glyzewski said. “It’s very important to have a good variety of services.”
The most recent service Centare has added is Application Life Cycle Management. Centare assesses how a company builds software during a life cycle and provides recommendations, Glyzewski said.
Glyzewski expects to add five new consultants and surpass $5 million in sales in 2008.
