Side ventures

Jim Kacmarcik's position running Kapco Inc. and the various charities the company is involved with keeps him extremely busy. However, he has found the time to begin two new side ventures that are gaining steam this year.


The first and most established is called K-Nation Entertainment, which is an entertainment company that aims to find and help promote bands and musicians across the country.

More than metal

Most people couldn’t name one company in metro Milwaukee that specializes in metal-related manufacturing.

But a lot of people in the Milwaukee area have heard of Grafton-based Kapco Inc., whether it’s because of the company’s radio ads during Milwaukee Brewers games (featuring spokesman and former Brewer great Robin Yount), programs that the company sponsors at Milwaukee Bucks games or one of the many charity or community-related programs that the company is involved in.

Walker’s target – 2.98 million jobs

The state Department of Workforce Development recently reported that Wisconsin had 2,731,000 nonfarm jobs in December, on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Several potential Kenosha Highway 50 corridor retail sites in play


In recent years, urban sprawl from the Chicago area has crept north of the state line into Kenosha County. After sluggish growth in the '70s and '80s Kenosha County's population increased by 29 percent from 128,181 in 1990 to an estimated 165,382 in 2009. At the same time, Wispark LLC attracted dozens of firms to its LakeView Corporate Park in Pleasant Prairie, and retail development flourished along Highway 50, which has become a major retail corridor in Kenosha County.

Commercial Realtors form boutique brokerage

In early 2010, when the commercial real estate market was still deep in the post Great Recession doldrums, two Milwaukee area commercial Realtors left their jobs at two of the largest commercial real estate firms in the region to start their own boutique commercial real estate brokerage in the Village of Lannon in northern Waukesha County.

Downtown Marriott

The Milwaukee Common Council recently voted in favor of an appeal by development firm Jackson Street Management LLC of an Historic Preservation Commission ruling requiring a set-back for the upper floors of Marriott hotel that the firm plans to build southwest of Wisconsin Avenue and Milwaukee Street.
