South Milwaukee workers reject Caterpillar contract proposal
The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that members of Local 1343 in South Milwaukee rejected a proposed six-year labor agreement with Caterpillar Inc. and that the union will resume negotiations with the company for a new contract.
Despite defense cutbacks Oshkosh Corp. doubles Q2 profit
Despite U.S. Defense Department spending cutbacks Oshkosh Corp. today reported a surge in second quarter earnings. The company posted fiscal second quarter net income of $85.4 million, or 96 cents per diluted share, nearly twice the $42.8 million, or 47 cents per diluted share, in net income for the previous fiscal second quarter.
MGIC losses widen
Milwaukee-based MGIC Investment Corp. continues to post hefty losses. The company today reported a first quarter net loss of $72.9 million, or 31 cents per share, up significantly from a net loss of $19.56 million, or 10 cents per share, in the first quarter of 2012.
