The Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative will present a series of community seminars in May and June to explain the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance reforms coming in 2014.

New resale shop offers on-the-job training for at-risk youth

St. Charles Youth & Family Services, Inc., a nonprofit human services agency based in Milwaukee, has opened a resale shop to act as a “training ground” for youth members and young adults involved in the organization's Youth Employment Services (Y.E.S.) program.

Common Ground to present health care seminars

The Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative has organized a series of educational seminars focused on explaining health insurance reform guidelines to be enacted in 2014. The seminars will run throughout May and June and will be tailored toward uninsured individuals, self-employed individuals, small business owners and leaders and nonprofit executives. Each seminar covers the same material including insurance marketplaces, subsidies for purchasing insurance, and the individual mandate among other critical points.

Brewers donate $100,000 to field reconstruction

The Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation have pledged $100,000 toward the reconstruction of Milwaukee’s Sherman Park baseball field to give Boys & Girls Clubs Little League players and central city kids a quality venue for games and programs.

Breast cancer walk raises $500,000

This year's Milwaukee "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk, held on May 4 at Veterans Park, raised $500,000 toward “the fight against breast cancer” through the generosity of more than 7,000 walkers.
