Manitowoc-based Orion Energy Systems Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all of the issued and outstanding equity interests of Harris Manufacturing Inc. and Harris LED LLC of Green Cove Springs, Fla.

At first glance, it would seem counterintuitive to think that Milwaukee, in the midst of a cold, snowy Wisconsin winter, would be a national hotspot for solar energy. Yet, that is precisely what is happening.

The City of Milwaukee implemented its Milwaukee Shines program in 2009 to promote both solar manufacturing and installation while working to lower the costs. It piggybacks on the existing Milwaukee Energy Efficiency, or Me², program.
