Business formation increased in 2011

Wisconsin entrepreneurs formed 2.3 percent more businesses in 2011 than in 2010, according to a recent report by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.
The final count of domestic and foreign (out-of-state) business formation filings for 2011 was 33,190, compared to 32,438 in 2010. The 2011 figure includes about 2,500 new business corporations, more than 25,000 limited liability companies and about 1,500 nonstock, not-for-profit businesses.
There were also 211 conversions, 160 mergers, more than 12,000 corporation annual reports and more than 25,000 LLC annual reports filed with the DFI.
In addition, the DFI received about 6,000 articles of dissolution, more than 25,000 cure delinquency and more than 36,000 administrative dissolution filings. There were just over 2,000 certificate of reinstatement filings.
According to the DFI, the 8,034 businesses formed in the fourth quarter of 2011 represent a 0.3 percent increase year-over-year.
