The Burleigh Street Community Development Corporation is taking the lead on a business plan competition designed to draw more entrepreneurs to the Burleigh Street commercial corridor.
The Burleigh Street CDC, which aims to build the business community in Milwaukee’s Burleigh Street Commercial Corridor and stimulate economic development, will launch the business plan competition in June.
The organization is collaborating with area property owners on the competition as property owners offer discounted rent rates to prospective business owners.
The competition’s application process will open up on June 1, and winners will be named later in the summer. Interested entrepreneurs can take technical assistance classes through May as they piece together their business plans.
The business plan competition is made possible by support from partners and sponsors including: Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, Town Bank, Hmong Chamber of Commerce, Allstate Insurance – Costigan Agency, LISC, Von Communications, Redemann Creative, African American Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, The Business Council, Urban Economic Development Association, LRC, Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation, and Newaukee among others.
