Friday, Jan. 20 The University Wisconsin Milwaukee will host a workshop entitled “iOS5: Fundamentals of Programming the iPhone and iPad in room N146 at Lubar Hall, 3202 N. Maryland Ave. The full day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is presented by the Center for Technology Innovation at UWM’s Lubar School of Business.
Attendees will learn how to take advantage of iOS’s new features, including automatic reference counting and storyboards to quickly create simple iOS applications. The focus will be on Xcode and other Apple developer tools. Attendees also will learn to write code using Objective-C and to design interfaces using a GUI tool that is now part of Xcode.
Presenter Daniel Steinberg has been programming the iPhone and iPad since their SDKs first appeared in beta and in Mac OS X many years before. He is co-author of “iPad Programming: A Quick-Start Guide for iPhone Developers”, and author of “Cocoa Programming,” both from Pragmatic Programmers. Steinberg presents iPhone and Cocoa training for the Pragmatic Studio and consults through his company, Dim Sum Thinking Inc. The cost for the workshop is $145. Tuesday, Jan. 31 Waukesha County Technical College will host a breakfast program on Access to Capital in Waukesha County at the WCTC Richard T. Anderson Education Center, 800 Main St. Pewaukee from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Attendees will learn about new developments in local, regional and state of Wisconsin financing incentives/programs available to Waukesha County businesses including the newly launched Waukesha County Small Business Leverage Loan Program. Tuesday, Jan. 31 The Milwaukee Press Club will host the 166th annual Milwaukee City Birthday Party at the Grain Exchange Building, 225 E. Michigan St, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This year, the event will celebrate Milwaukee’s status as a ‘Big League City.’ In addition to the championship performances of Milwaukee’s professional and college sports teams, the city boasts big league business, arts, and nonprofits. The Press Club also will unveil the Big League City MVP Contest that will lead up to the annual City of Milwaukee Birthday Party. Saturday, Feb. 11 Sprecher Brewery will be transformed into Lou Zar’s Speakeasy for a 1920’s Valentine’s Day murder mystery dinner. The event will begin with a brewery tour followed by a 3-course themed dinner complete with Sprecher beers and gourmet sodas. During the dinner someone in the “family” gets murdered, mobsters appear and comic mayhem ensues. Guests are encouraged to hone their sleuthing skills because the killer could be anyone in the room. Tour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the dinner at 5:30 and a cash bar from 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person and seating is limited.
