*Thursday, Jan. 8, the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce will hold a “TBC Speed Networking Event” at Mango Tropical Bar and Grill, located at 721 S. Cesar Chavez Drive in Milwaukee. During the event, attendees will take part in two-minute meetings with other attendees to build relationships, promote their businesses, and exchange contact information. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $30. Proceeds will go toward the Lou McGlothian Memorial Scholarship, which aids ethnically-diverse students. *Thursday, Jan. 8, NEWaukee will present a social at The Brown Bottle, located at 221 W. Galena St. in Milwaukee’s Schlitz Park. The event, part of a series of monthly networking events, will give attendees a chance to meet other professionals and will also feature live music and a $5 combo that includes a glass of Schlitz and an order of beer nuggets. *Monday, Jan. 12, the Waukesha County Business Alliance will present a Young Professionals Luncheon themed “Living in Symmetry” and focused on how to pursue a balanced, productive life. *Wednesday, Jan. 21, UW-Milwaukee’s School of Continuing Education will hold a seminar on “First Steps to Starting a Business.” Attendees will have a chance to examine the feasibility of their business idea, look at the risks and rewards of starting a business, use tools to calculate startup costs, discuss critical marketing strategies, learn about the legalities of launching a business and more. The seminar will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the School of Continuing Education, located at 161 W. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. Cost is $29, and seating is limited. *Thursday, Jan. 29, BizTimes Media will hold the 2015 Northern Trust Economic Trends Breakfast to give business leaders insight on expectations for business in the year ahead. The event, in its 14th year, will feature a macro-economic outlook by Michael Knetter, Ph.D., of the University of Wisconsin Foundation as well as industry outlooks by Tina Chang of SysLogic Inc., Tom Still of the Wisconsin Technology Council, Keith Rozolis of ABC Supply Co.
