Bo Black plans return visit to Summerfest

Bo Black, who left as executive director of Summerfest in 2003, plans to return to the Milwaukee festival she helped build on Wednesday, June 29, and she’s inviting the public to join her to fight hunger.

Black called BizTimes by phone today to invite readers to attend Summefest’s opening day on Wednesday, June 29.

Oh, and she is insisting you bring a nonperishable food item to donate to Milwaukee’s food banks.

“I’m hoping to be there. I want to push the food banks. Bring food!” Black said.

Black resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., with her husband, former Milwaukee Brewers manager Tom Trebelhorn, who is now a minor league manager of the Salem Volcanoes in the San Francisco Giants system.

“With the state of affairs in your state and my state, all of the food banks are empty. My goal is to fill the food banks up, and Summerfest is the perfect vehicle for that. Bring food!” Black said.

Black said she is still dealing with medical complications after suffering a stroke, aneurisms and heart disease.
“The stroke affected my legs, but not my mind,” she said.

Her health permitting, Black’s Summerfest visit on June 29 will be her first since she left the job eight years ago.

"We’ll see. You never know what tomorrow brings," Black said.
