BizTimes Media executive editor Steve Jagler and managing editor Andrew Weiland will receive Milwaukee Press Club Awards for Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism.
The club announced the recipients of the annual awards on Wednesday.
Jagler will receive an award for best editorial column. His column on current events appears in each edition of BizTimes Milwaukee magazine.
Weiland will receive an award for best editorial beat coverage. Weiland covers the real estate beat for BizTimes.
This year’s contest garnered more than 500 entries from throughout Wisconsin in professional and collegiate divisions.
The awards will be presented at the 85th annual Milwaukee Press Club Gridiron Awards Dinner, which will take place Friday, May 15, at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.
The Gridiron Dinner also will include the presentation of the Milwaukee Press Club’s Sacred Cat Award, recognizing professional achievements on the national level. This year’s Sacred Cat recipient will be former ABC News White House correspondent and Hall of Fame journalist Ann Compton. Compton had a unique perch from which to watch history unfold. As ABC News White House correspondent, she covered administrations, campaigns, turmoil and the ebb/flow of America’s political leanings from the end of Watergate to the events that led to the rise of ISIS. She was the first woman to cover the Oval Office for a network on a full-time basis.
In addition, the Gridiron Dinner will feature the presentation of the club’s annual Headliner Awards to Ricardo Diaz and Linda Mellowes. Diaz is executive director of the United Community Center and. Diaz is a committed advocate for education and the Latino community. Mellowes is a community volunteer and fundraiser. The Headliner Awards are presented annually to people who are making a positive difference in Wisconsin.
