WHEDA awards RBK Web development contract

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) selected Red Brown Kle Marketing Communications, Milwaukee, to completely redesign its Web site. RBK will be responsible for everything from information architecture to detailed design. The new Web site will make information on WHEDA’s products and services more accessible, user-friendly and highlight WHEDA’s new brand identity. The redesign of the WHEDA Web site is one component of a re-branding effort, which will kick off with a public unveiling of a new logo in the coming weeks. The new Web site will be debuted in early 2008. WHEDA is an independent authority created by the Wisconsin Legislature in 1972 to meet the needs for affordable housing for low and moderate-income residents. Legislation enacted in 1983 expanded WHEDA’s mission to include financing for small businesses and farmers.

Medical College grant to study lymphedema in older breast cancer patients

Dr. Tina Yen, assistant professor of surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, has received a five-year, $690,000 career development grant from the National Cancer Institute. The grant will fund a program of career development and research related to breast cancer. Dr. Yen hopes to advance research for lymphedema, the arm and hand swelling related to lymph node removal after breast cancer surgery. Lymphedema is a major complication among breast cancer survivors, yet the clinical source of this problem is poorly understood.

Design North wins three graphic design awards

Design North, Racine, won several 2007 American Graphic Design Awards for their packaging of ABB Software, Birds Eye Foods Signature Seafood and InSinkErator Hot Water Dispensers. Design North used photography to create a packaging system targeting International markets, and helped build category awareness and product benefit. American Graphic Design Awards is an annual competition entering its 45th year. Over 10,000 entries were submitted this year.

Creativity Magazine award

Nelson Schmidt, Milwaukee, won a gold and a silver award in the national Creativity magazine Annual Award book. Nelson Schmidt’s entries were chosen from more than 2,700 entries representing 45 states and 29 countries. The gold award was for a Honor the Game campaign promoting Club Car, of Augusta, Ga. The Silver Award was for a poster campaign from the Grape Lakes Food & Wine Festival, presented by the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Friends of Art Acquisition and Exhibition Fund. 

Cornerstone Florist now under new management 

Earth, Wind & Flower (EWF), Milwaukee, purchased Cornerstone Florist, of West Allis. Cornerstone Florist,  6000 West Lincoln Avenue, will keep its original name, but is now under the management of Chris Dobs and Dan Block. In addition to floral services, Cornerstone Florist is also a computer drop-off location for aur Computer Service (www.aurcomputerservice.com). Customers can drop-off their computer at the floral shop and technicians will diagnose and repair problems. EWF is a locally owned floral business serving Metro Milwaukee for over 15 years and is an affiliate of the aur Enterprises network. Medical Associates Showcases Quality Project at Statewide Forum

Medical Associates Health Centers, Menomonee Falls, was one of 35 Wisconsin healthcare organizations to exhibit at the Wisconsin Quality and Safety Forum held recently in Waukesha. Medical Associates’ showed how the physician group implemented an awareness campaign and technology advancements to encourage improvement in the rates of screenings for cancers of the breast, cervix and colon. The Wisconsin Hospital Association sponsors the Wisconsin Quality and Safety Forum annually to encourage hospitals and other groups to share information and practices that enhance patient safety and the quality of care.  The Forum is presented in collaboration with the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality, Metastar, Wisconsin Health Information Organization and Wisconsin Medical Society.
