The Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry distributed its annual President’s Awards during its 2014 holiday dinner. The awards program honors Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council, Inc. members, “who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community, education, and support of the association’s goals.” The association touts ethical conduct, professionalism and best business practices in the remodeling industry. The President’s Awards were presented by association president David Pekel of Pekel Construction & Remodeling in Wauwatosa. The 2014 award recipients are: Greg Adamec of Milwaukee Millwork in Milwaukee; Josh Brown of Bliffert Lumber in Milwaukee; Michelle Brown of the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council, Inc. in Wauwatosa; Chris Egner of Four Seasons Sunrooms/Chris Egner Design-Build-Remodel in New Berlin; Bingo Emmons of Creative Construction of Wisconsin in Franklin; and Ryan Fillinger of A. Fillinger, Inc. in Milwaukee.
HNI
New Berlin-based HNI has received two awards from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for its outstanding support of military members. ESGR is an agency of the U.S. Defense Department. The agency recognized HNI Wisconsin president Chad Tisonik with a Patriot Award for his support of Kyle Meinert, an HNI employee who is also a sergeant in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Meinert nominated Tisonik for the national award, which highlights employers who offer support to military employees and their families beyond hiring Guard and Reserve personnel. ESGR also saluted HNI with a Seven Seals award for its advocacy work focused on hiring military members. HNI chief executive officer Mike Natalizio accepted the award for the company. Awards were presented during a Nov. 21 ceremony held at HNI’s corporate office in New Berlin. ESGR volunteers Mike Pierce and Tim Flatley led the ceremony.
Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce honored Judi Murphy, senior vice president and co-founder of Brookfield-based Murphy Associates, with its Chamber Champion Award during its 57th annual meeting on Nov. 19 at Westmoor Country Club. The Chamber Champion Award, which has only ever been given one other time, acknowledges a chamber member who has long supported and promoted the chamber and its mission. Murphy, who has more than 20 years of public relations experience, has been a chamber member for 23 years. She acts as public relations liaison for the chamber, chairs the Communications and Marketing Committee and serves on the Ambassadors Council. Murphy previously served the chamber’s board of directors for six years and is a past board chair. She also previously headed the Ambassadors Council and represented the chamber as a voting member of Visit Brookfield’s board of directors. Additionally, Murphy was part of the City of Brookfield’s marketing committee that rebranded the city’s economic development efforts and served on the City of Brookfield 2020 Master Plan Task Force.

The Pfister Hotel and InterContinental Milwaukee, which both belong to The Marcus Corporation’s Marcus Hotels & Resorts division, garnered four Adrian Awards from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. The 2014 awards program, which is part of a top travel marketing competition, drew more than 1,200 international entries that were vetted by industry executives. The Pfister Hotel previously announced a Silver Adrian Award that it received under the category of “Public Relations Campaign: Marketing Program – Consumer.” The award centered on the hotel’s 120th anniversary marketing campaign. Additionally, the Pfister Hotel has been awarded a Gold Adrian Award in the category of “Public Relations Single Item: Feature Placement Online-Consumer Media.” The award recognizes a feature story of a family’s four-generational wedding history with the hotel. The story ran on Good Morning America and on ABC News online. The Pfister Hotel also claimed a Bronze Adrian Award for its new website, www.thepfisterhotel.com, under the category of “Digital Marketing: Digital Single Item – Web Site.” InterContinental Milwaukee was saluted with a Gold Adrian Award in “Public Relations Campaign: Community Service/Social Responsibility” for its Five Year Pink Room Community Partnership PR Campaign. The hotels will be honored during the HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala at the New York Marriott Marquis on Feb. 23.
