Downtown Marriott

The Milwaukee Common Council recently voted in favor of an appeal by development firm Jackson Street Management LLC of an Historic Preservation Commission ruling requiring a set-back for the upper floors of Marriott hotel that the firm plans to build southwest of Wisconsin Avenue and Milwaukee Street.

Another anchor tenant for downtown landlords to chase

In 1989, a unique multi-use development was completed in downtown Milwaukee. The project, developed on the block southwest of Water Street and Kilbourn Avenue, included the combination of the 28-story Milwaukee Center office tower, a hotel and the redevelopment of a former power plant building into a new home for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. The office building, hotel, Milwaukee Rep and the Pabst Theater were all connected by an atrium in the middle of the block.

Junior Achievement

Construction began recently for the 40,000-square-foot Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Kohl's Education Center, which will be built at 11111 W. Liberty Place, Milwaukee.

Southwest unlikely to make Milwaukee a hub

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Co.'s acquisition of Orlando, Fla.-based AirTran Holdings Inc. should not result in any significant reductions in the service that the two airlines currently provide at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, according to airline industry consultant Michael Boyd, president of Evergreen, Colo.-based Boyd Group International Inc.
