Greater Milwaukee Foundation is at a crossroads

Ellen Gilligan became the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's third chef executive officer in September 2010, succeeding Doug Jansson, who retired after 17 years of service to the organization.

Time for next generation of donors to step forward

While many have confidence in the resilience of Milwaukee's nonprofit community, no one can deny the impact that will be felt when several prominent foundations wind down.

Double whammy

In addition to the impending sunset of Milwaukee's most prominent foundations, several Milwaukee-based corporations that provide support to area nonprofit organizations have been acquired or are in the process of being acquired by out-of-state firms.

Into the sunset

Within the next four months, nonprofit organizations in the Milwaukee area will lose a major source of funding when the Elizabeth A. Brinn Foundation, which works to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in the Milwaukee area, will sunset.

The closure of the Brinn Foundation will begin a cascade of sunsets for several of the most prominent sources of philanthropic foundations that serve southeastern Wisconsin.
