It was groundbreaking by committee, as 19 dignitaries involved in the construction of the Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center on the Memorial Medical Center campus all tossed a shovelful of sand Monday to ceremonially inaugurate the project.
In point of fact, the project has been underway since early spring, and in the background heavy equipment rumbled throughout the ceremony. But that didn’t detract from the sense of celebration as officials from Memorial Medical Center, Essentia Health, the project’s builders and members of the Ashland community gathered to mark the project to bring advanced cancer treatment to Ashland.
