Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield recently launched its ‘Join in to Win’ Facebook contest designed to help people improve health. Five winning team leaders will receive personal coaching advice and video training from “The Biggest Loser” trainer Bob Harper.
“As a company it is our job to promote healthy lifestyles and to help people make incremental changes in their health habits,” said Scott Larrivee, spokesperson for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “Increasingly, people are interacting with one another and are sharing health goals online via social media channels. This contest provides a way for individuals to form a team and identify a health goal that they’re enthusiastic about achieving.”
According to Larrivee, studies have indicated that individual health connects people and social networks has made that connection even more real.
“The positive or negative health decisions we make influence those around us,” he said.
From now until August 15, people can visit www.facebook.com/healthjoinin to create a team, Larrivee said.
“Leaders are encouraged to form teams and recruit team members dedicated to achieving a specific goal,” he said. “Only team leaders are eligible to win, but team members should act as a source of support and encouragement for team leaders.”
Teams can rally around goals like weightloss, dieting for weight loss, smoking or even eating more fruits and vegetables, Larrivee said.
Harper will select the five winning team leaders who will receive a six week training course and video chats from Harper. The winners will also receive a free health coach from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for those six weeks.
