Allen will represent United States at Italian food conference

Urban farmer Will Allen, chief executive officer of Milwaukee’s Growing Power, will represent the “Good Food Revolution” as part of a U.S. delegation to be sent by President Barack Obama to attend the Milan Expo 2015 in Italy.

As part of her “Let’s Move!” initiative to end the epidemic of childhood obesity in America within a generation, First Lady Michelle Obama will lead the delegation.  The delegation will tour the USA Pavilion, which showcases American leadership on global food security and development issues, innovation, climate change and sustainability, and nutrition and health.

“No matter where in the world we live, we all want healthy, nutritious food for our families,” Michelle Obama said. “I’m thrilled for our delegation to have this opportunity to represent the United States at this important global event; to discuss shared values and best practices with other participating countries as we continue to strive to support a healthy America.”

“This happened pretty quickly. I will leave (for Italy) tonight,” Allen told BizTimes. “It will be an interesting trip for me. It’s an opportunity to talk about what’s happening on the ground floor of this ‘Good Food Revolution’…I’ll do whatever the First Lady asks me to do.”
