Cafe Benelux in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward is bringing back its popular winterized dining experience for a second season, Milwaukee-based Lowlands Group announced Friday.
Lux Domes, which are six private, heated domes on the restaurant’s rooftop deck, will open Friday, Nov. 29.
The concept was met with high demand last year after its November debut, with the first round of reservations selling out in 24 hours. Now in its second season, Lux Domes will include updated menu items and more slots available for rent.
“We took a gamble last year on the hunch that people in Milwaukee were looking for more adventurous dining experiences,” said Dan Herwig, director of brand and marketing for Lowlands Group. “People want to get out and enjoy winter, and the domes give them a totally unique way to do that.”  Â
Reservations for Lux Domes will open in a few weeks and are expected to fill up quickly, the company said. Those interested can sign up on Lux Domes’ website to receive an email alert 24 hours before reservations open to the public.Â
For $200, groups of up to eight people can reserve one of the six domes for 90-minute time slots. A reservation includes a complimentary round of seasonal beverages, such as hot toddies, mulled wine or hot cocoa, and souvenir mugs for the whole group. Food and beverage packages are available for an additional price.Â
“While $200 seems like a lot at first blush, it shakes out to $25 a person for a really unique experience, and that includes the first round of drinks and a keepsake mug,” Herwig. “Last year we saw so many different people out celebrating all sorts of occasions — we even had a few proposals on the rooftop.”
