A bipartisan letter to President Obama sent by Wisconsin’s congressional members requests expedited consideration of the state’s disaster assistance request following severe storms that brought flooding to the Milwaukee area last month.
The letter, sent jointly this week by U.S. Sens. Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold and U.S. Reps. Gwen Moore, Jim Sensenbrenner and Ron Kind, seeks individual assistance for Milwaukee, Waukesha and Grant counties, public assistance for Milwaukee and Grant counties, and hazard mitigation statewide.
The state has requested more than $12 million in public assistance for Milwaukee and Grant counties, and preliminary estimates found more than 50 homes had major damage. "The damage is concentrated and poses a threat to public health and safety," the lawmakers write in the letter.
