Health plan commits $744,000 to Wisconsin communities

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield recently announced that the company it’s corporate foundation and it’s associates have contributed $744,622 and nearly 700 volunteer hours to health related causes and community events in 2011.
“Our company exists to improve health, and we are just as proud of the work we do in our communities as we are of the outstanding services and benefits we provide our members,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “By supporting local organizations and events, we are working to help provide kids and families with the programs and information they need to live their healthiest lives possible.”
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield used it’s State Health Index and Healthy Generations grant program as well as it’s foundation work to identify health issues in most need of attention and volunteer efforts. The company paid particular focus to promoting youth health, preventing unnecessary preterm births, smoking cessation and raising flu vaccine awareness.
Throughout 2011, the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation supported programs through the American Lung Association, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Health Literacy Wisconsin, March of Dimes and supported various events across the community as well.
“Wisconsin is filled with outstanding community and nonprofit organizations that are moving our state forward,” said Schreiber. “Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is fortunate enough to collaborate with many of these organizations and we look forward to continuing this work in the years ahead.”
