Innovation: Revolution CT
GE Healthcare is a company driven by innovation. More than 300 cross-functional employees at the company worked to design, develop and manufacture the Revolution CT, the company’s most recent product to hit the market.
The Revolution CT is an ultra-fast CT scanner. It was developed completely from scratch at GE’s U.S. headquarters in Wauwatosa, and allows clinicians to obtain high-quality images of a patient’s heart in just one heartbeat.
The speed and accuracy of the scanner not only allow clinicians to see more patients in a given time, but also provide them with quality images so they can confidently make more accurate diagnoses.
According to Henry Hummel, president and chief executive officer of Molecular Imaging and Computed Tomography at GE Healthcare, there is a constant struggle among speed, coverage and image quality in CT scanning and diagnosis.
Patient safety and comfort were a major focus in the development of the product, Hummel said. The device has a wide bore, which provides greater access and comfort for patients, and is also powerful and fast yet very quiet, which encourages a stress-free environment.
The Revolution CT hit the market in April 2014. After one year, the scanner has generated $175 million in orders and leading radiologists and cardiologists have called it “the best CT Innovation they’ve seen in decades,” Hummel said.
Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa installed the first Revolution CT in the Milwaukee area this April.
