The U.S. stock market soared today with the news that initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits fell across the nation for a second straight week last week, according to the U.S. Labor Department, but first-time unemployment claims rose again in Wisconsin.
Initial jobless claims totaled 334,000 in the week ended June 8, down 12,000 from the previous week.
The four-week moving average of claims was 345,250, down from 352,500 a week earlier. That compared with 378,250 a year ago.

However, initial unemployment claims in Wisconsin increased last week to 10,138 from 9,073 a week earlier, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 181 points today.
