Milwaukee’s Public Works Committee passed an ordinance on Wednesday to regulate the amount of alcohol patrons can consume while riding pedal taverns throughout the city.
The ordinance limits patrons to three beers while riding the so-called quadricycles, according to reports from WISN12 News, a media partner of BizTimes Milwaukee.
State legislation that passed earlier this year made it legal for pedal tavern riders to drink. However, the legislation also allowed municipalities the right to make their own restrictions.
Alderman Robert Bauman sponsored the ordinance to regulate alcohol consumption on pedal taverns.
He is in favor of alcohol consumption on pedal taverns, he said, but acknowledges there are safety concerns.
“If and when there’s an incident or an accident or injuries, we’ll have to take a second look at things,” Bauman said.
The Common Council is expected to review the ordinance in two weeks.
