What has fueled your company’s growth? The same things that have fueled our growth also make us special in the marketplace. Abri is a locally owned and operated HMO in Wisconsin. Two of Abri’s owners and strategic partners are Independent Physician’s Network (IPN) and Serve You Custom Prescription Management. This local provider ownership gives Abri a unique perspective in the marketplace. Abri seeks to restore the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and be an organization that supports rather than hinders the delivery of care. In addition, our belief in providing prompt service and payment to providers as well as superior customer service to our members has also differentiated us in the marketplace. Market demographics of an aging America and new wave of immigration to fuel U.S. economy bodes well for Abri’s business growth.
What is the biggest obstacle to your company’s growth? In the governmental lines, the biggest obstacle is provider reluctance to provide services to Medicaid/BadgerCare recipients. This results in a shortage of medical and dental providers, which hinders our ability to provide choices to our members. Providers are reluctant to accept continuing reimbursement shortfalls and increasing regulatory burdens. In the commercial lines, the biggest obstacles are regulatory filings and state required mandates that are eroding private sector insurance coverage growth.
Do you plan any changes in your company in the upcoming months? Abri is currently working on expansion through southern and central Wisconsin counties with both our Medicaid and Medicare Advantage products. We are in the process of developing commercial products/services that we hope to have ready to introduce to the marketplace in 2008. We are also looking at other opportunities to bring quality, cost effective and innovative health care products and services to Wisconsin.
Who are the business people, locally or nationally, whom you admire? And what traits do those people exhibit that make you admire them? Martin “Marty” Stein. A mentor, entrepreneur, civic leader and friend who has committed to those who are less fortunate in the areas of education and health.
What is the outlook for the business conditions of your industry over the next several months? Wisconsin political leadership is very innovative and supportive of the expansion of government/ private sector partnerships for the purpose of increasing the number of Wisconsin residents who have health coverage. This makes our current market very promising in terms of growth. Other areas Abri is working on include special product lines catering to “aging America” which presents unlimited potential to serve this increasing population and their special needs.
