Klein Development plans to build a 64,000-square-foot office building on the long-vacant block southeast of North 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee’s Avenues West neighborhood.

The building will be occupied by the state Department of Children and Families. The state agency will relocate and consolidate its Milwaukee operations from a few other locations into this building. The project will cost $10.4 million. Korb Tredo Architects is doing the design work for the project. Milwaukee-based KBS Construction will build the building. The building will be located along Wisconsin Avenue. A 200-space surface parking lot will be located south of the building. The site has been vacant for years. It was once occupied by an 11-story building that was a Hilton Hotel, later a Holiday Inn Hotel and later a Marquette University dormitory.
