The Brookfield-based Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association Inc. will receive a $5,000 grant from the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation to support its mission.
WASA, a nonprofit, was formed in 2015 to promote community collaboration of adaptive sports and recreation opportunities to Wisconsinites with physical disabilities or visual impairments. It runs wheelchair basketball, tennis, softball, quad rugby, lacrosse and sled hockey programs.
“Supporting WASA and their programs is an opportunity for the BRPF to encourage people with disabilities to participate in adaptive sports, which builds self-confidence and self-esteem,” said Bryon Riesch, president of BRPF. “It gives them a chance to compete and be a part of a team again. The BRPF is pleased to contribute funds to this great organization.”
Waukesha-based BRPF was established in 2001 to find a cure for paralysis by funding medical research, while providing assistance to those who suffer from neurological disorders. The nonprofit has raised more than $4 million since it was started.
