Milwaukee County has issued a request for proposal for the acquisition and development of a vacant food service building located just north of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center in Wauwatosa.
The 35,028-square-foot, two story building sits on a 3.36-acre site in what is becoming one of the region’s most thriving areas.
Milwaukee County is hoping to solicit a buyer and developer for the property at 9150 Watertown Plank Road. The rolling deadline for the RFP begins Oct. 3 and continues the first Monday of every month.
The RFP suggests uses by a medical facility, college or university, and professional or medical office or research. Conditional uses include group or adult homes, and religious or recreational uses. The property does not include any road or other public right of way.
The building was built in 1957, and was most recently used as the food service building for the mental health facility. In 2013, CBRE conducted a comprehensive facilities plan for Milwaukee County and concluded the building was over-sized for current usage and no longer necessary with smaller patient loads at the mental health facilities on the campus.
CBRE recommended consolidating food service and selling the building, possibly to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Nearby, Milwaukee-based developer Mandel Group is planning a $36 million mixed-use development at Milwaukee County Research Park that will include a brewpub, hotel and up to 90 apartments. The project will be developed on three parcels at the southeast corner of Innovation Drive and Watertown Plank Road.
