Pleasant Prairie assembler and packager to close one facility

Unified Solutions Inc., a Pleasant Prairie-based packaging and assembly company, has informed the state of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development that it will close one of its facilities, and that 228 of its workers will lose their jobs by March 18.

One of Unified Solutions’ large customers has not renewed its contract with the firm, and the layoffs are related to that contract loss, said Janet Barootian, the company’s chief executive officer. The company and its customer, who she declined to identify, shared a production and packaging facility near Unified Solutions headquarters at 9801 80th Ave. in Pleasant Prairie.

“We have two facilities, and one of them is exclusive for this customer,” Barootian said.

Unified Solutions has about 274,000 square feet of total operating space. Its assembly operations use about 70,000 square feet, and its warehouse has about 204,000 square feet of available space.

After the layoff, Unified Solutions will continue to employ more than 500 workers.

“All of our other accounts and customers remain strong and active,” she said.

The company provides packaging and assembly operations for customers in the retail, industrial and commercial segments. Some of its work involves point-of-purchase retail items and packaged items sold in wholesale club stores, Barootian said.
