Open Enrollment begins Saturday

Open Enrollment for 2015 Marketplace health insurance coverage begins Saturday. From then until Sunday, Feb. 15, people can find a new Marketplace plan, keep their current plan or find out if they can get help paying for coverage.

During Open Enrollment, coverage starts the first day of the next month for those who enroll between the first and 15th days of the month. It starts the first day of the second following month for those who enroll between the 16th and the last day of the month.

Those who don’t have health coverage during 2015 may have to pay a fee of 2 percent of their income or $325 per adult and $162.50 per child, whichever is more.

Here are some upcoming important dates to know:
•    Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014: This is the first day to apply for, keep or change coverage.
•    Monday, Dec. 15, 2014: Enroll by the 15th if you want new coverage that begins on Jan. 1, 2015. If your plan is changing or you want to change plans, enroll by Dec. 15 to avoid a lapse in coverage.
•    Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014: The day all 2014 Marketplace coverage ends, no matter when you enrolled. Coverage for 2015 plans can start as soon as Jan. 1st.
•    Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015: The last day you can enroll in 2015 coverage before the end of Open Enrollment.
