Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual Foundation has proven it’s commitment to strengthen the community by proding $500,000 in grants to support nonprofit programs that help make Milwaukee a destination for visitors.

“One of the reasons Northwestern Mutual has been strong over 155 years is our ability to attract and retain an exceptionally talented workforce,” said John Kordsmeier, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. “These programs will further strengthen the region’s reputation, and make Milwaukee even more attractive to visitors, businesses, residents and tomorrow’s workforce.”
Each grant recipient attracts at least 100,000 attendees annually, contributing to the tourism industry and health of the local economy by creating the kind of memorable experiences, events and thought-provoking exhibits that interest destination seekers.
Organizations that received grants from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation included: Brewers Community Foundation, Friends of Schlitz Audubon, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum, Milwaukee World Festival, and Zoological Society of Milwaukee for the Northwestern Mutual Family Farm.
“The Northwestern Mutual Family Farm is a must-see destination for families visiting the Milwaukee County Zoo,” said Dr. Bert Davis, president and chief executive officer, Zoological Society of Milwaukee. “The new entrance will draw families into the farm by engaging children more quickly in a hands-on history lesson about farming.”
