  • Friday, Feb. 24 The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will hold the Milwaukee Wine Opener at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, 509 W. Wisconsin Ave. from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will feature an unlimited sampling of approximately 100 wines, small plate tastings from 20 of Milwaukee’s top restaurants, and live music by Ryan McIntyre. The event benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and will celebrate the CF Foundation’s most recent medical advances. The CF Foundation is proud to have played an important role in the research and development of Kalydeco, a breakthrough drug that is the first to address the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis. The foundation hopes to raise $52,000 through the Milwaukee Wine Opener. Individual ticket prices are $60 in advance, and $75 at the door. Sponsorship packages are available.   • Friday, Feb. 24 The Humane Milwaukee Gala will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel starting at 7 p.m. The Gala is being held to celebrate humane youth and raise funds to continue humane education campaigns and programs for at-risk youth facilitated by the Brew City Bully Club.  The organization inspires at-risk youth through education and bonding experiences with dogs, and helps nurture in them the feelings of hope, respect and a vision for a better future. Tio Hardiman, nationally renowned as a champion to end violence in all forms, will be the keynote speaker.  Hardiman has worked with Former First Lady Laura Bush, Queen Noor of Jordan, Michael Vick, Wayne Pacelle and countless others to help bring awareness to the plight of people and animals around the world.  The Gala admission is $75/person.   • Saturday, Feb. 25 Carnival Milwaukee will be held at the Zoofari Conference Center, 9715 Bluemound Road, from 7 to 11 p.m. The fundraiser for UEDA will feature a sampling of cuisines from local restaurants and live entertainment by Latin Jazz band De La Buena, all in the style of Mardi Gras and Carnival celebrations around the world.Tickets are $40 per person.   • Wednesday, Feb. 29 St. Aemilian-Lakeside president and chief executive officer, Teri Zywicki and Integrated Family Services project manager and long-time child welfare advocate Darlene Pawluk bartend at the BluTender Friend Raiser event from 6 to 7 p.m., at Blu, top of the Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. Music by guitarist Joe Wray. Cash bar, raffles. Tips will support services to children and families throughout Southeast Wisconsin who are served by these human services agencies. Free parking for 2.5 hours will be included.
  • Wednesday, March 7 The Milwaukee Kickers will host a fundraising event at the new Splash Studio painting bar in the Historic Third Ward from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. Guests will learn to create their masterpieces while enjoying a glass of beer, wine or soda. Splash founder and president Marla Hahn is generously hosting the  pre-grand opening event especially for the Milwaukee Kickers. Tickets are $35 and include three hours of studio time, paint supplies including smock, paint instruction, cleanup, one complimentary drink and your masterpiece to take home with you at the end of the night.   • Thursday, March 8 The Milwaukee Center for Independence Professional Conference Series is presenting “Toxic Stress in Childhood: The impact on brain development of young children” from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the MCFI Conference Center, 2020 W. Wells St., Milwaukee. Presenters will discuss the emotional, behavioral and physical effects of profound, consistent stress in early childhood, as well as intervention strategies for addressing toxic stress. Presenters are Deborah McNelis early brain specialist and owner of Brain Insights, LLC, and Dr. Veronica Gunn, medical director, Community Services, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. David Cipriano, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin will provide opening remarks. The registration fee is $35 per person, including a continental breakfast and materials.   • Saturday, March 10 Friedens Community Ministries will host the Strike Out Hunger Bowl-A-Thon at AMF Bowlero Lanes, 11737 W Burleigh St, Wauwatosa, starting at 2pm.  Proceeds will help stock the organization’s three emergency food pantries around.  The cost is $15.00 per person cash or pledges and $90.00 for a team of 6. The fee includes shoes and refreshments.  There will be 50/50 raffles and prizes for highest scoring teams and individuals.  Visit www.friedenspantry.org for more information.
