In 2013, Lynda Kohler, executive director of SHARP Literacy, Inc., was promoted to president and chief executive officer to better reflect the responsibilities that she holds. With her guidance, SHARP Literacy has increased the number of students served by the program by nearly 21 percent this year.
Kohler was hired as executive director in 2012, and the changes she has made within the organization during her tenure have been highly impactful.
The year-round program can be fully integrated into school curriculum and is designed to provide students in kindergarten through fifth grades with the opportunity to build reading, writing and research skills through visual arts.
This year, SHARP will reach nearly 7,000 students and 300 teachers in 32 schools in the Milwaukee area.
Deborah Hertig, executive assistant at SHARP Literacy, said Kohler’s vision inspires others to aspire to lofty goals.
“Her dream becomes the dream of those around her,” she said. “Her energy inspires us.”
