Concordia University Wisconsin, Kapco Metal Stamping and Baseball Hall of Famer Robin Yount have revealed the name and logo of the newest baseball team in the Northwoods Summer Baseball League, the Lakeshore Chinooks.
“Launching a new sports franchise is both exhilarating and challenging but in the end extremely rewarding,” said Jim Kacmarcik, president of Kapco Metal Stamping. “Baseball fans will be able to see top level college talent from around the country in a family friendly venue along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan.”
Kacmarcik, will be majority owner of the new team. Kapco recently made a lead donation to help CUW complete its new baseball stadium, in Mequon, which will seat approximately 2,000 people, allowing the wooden bat league team to use CUW’s facility under the terms of an agreement worked out earlier this year beginning in the summer of 2012.
Yount is minority owner in the new team, along with announcer Bob Uecker.
“We are extremely excited to be working with Kapco on this project as its mission aligns nicely with ours here at Concordia,” said Patrick Ferry, president of Concordia University Wisconsin.  “We’ve had a great relationship with Kapco for years and this endeavor further cements that.”
The team will also allow students in the school’s sports marketing and business programs to help with the day-to-day operations of the franchise, Ferry said.
According to Allan Bud Selig, commissioner of Major League Baseball, the new addition to the Northwoods league will allow baseball fans to enjoy a high caliber of play and also allow area families an affordable entertainment option.
“The ownership group, comprised of area business leaders, along with Hall of Famers Robin Yount and Bob Uecker, has a track record of giving back to the community and running successful operations,” said Selig.
Dean Rennicke, former vice president of the Milwaukee Brewers, will be vice president and general manager of the team.
