In the middle of a legal dispute over how to divide and untangle their business interests, the Giuffre brothers have put 12 of their approximately 30 properties up for sale.
The properties, most of which are located in Milwaukee or nearby suburbs, have a total approximate value of $24 million and account for more than 856,000 square feet.
Among the dozen properties on the market is 2100-2215 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., the former Milwaukee Gas Light Co. buildings in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley. The nearly 82,900-square-foot property is home to City Lights Brewing Co. and Zimmerman Architectural Studios Inc.
Brothers Frank and Dominic Giuffre own crane-rental company Giuffre Bros. Cranes Inc. and Mallory Properties, which specializes in buying distressed commercial and industrial buildings and transforming them into marketable properties.
Recently the brothers, both in their 70s, have been engaged in a legal fight to divide up their business interests.
Eventually, the two turned to Daniel Seibel, founding partner of Milwaukee law firm Seibel & Falkner LLP to serve as a neutral adviser and assist with efforts to split up the brother’s business interests. This work includes helping them divide up the real estate they own.
“I feel fortunate to be able to help this family through a difficult time, but not an unusual situation for a successful family businesses,” Seibel said. “Having me as an agreed upon neutral adviser to handle this real estate, rather than a judge or court appointed receive, has been the best way to orderly sell these properties for the benefit of the family.”
The Boerke Co. has been tapped by the Giuffres as the broker for the properties.
The other properties being sold include:
- The former Rexworks facility at 445 and 550 W. Oklahoma Ave., Milwaukee, totaling 390,365 square feet.
- 10900 N. Port Washington Road, Mequon, the 13,200-square-foot home of The Feed Bag Pet Supply Co.
- The 17,050-square-foot DaVita South Ridge dialysis center at 7740 W. Layton Ave., Greenfield.
- An American Freight furniture and mattress store located 3804 S. 27th St., Milwaukee, totaling 30,446 square feet.
- 569-575 W. Lincoln Ave., Milwaukee, which are retail and apartment buildings totaling 6,580 square feet.
- The old Menards building at 8365 N. 76th St., as well as outlots at 8371 N. 76th and 7655 W. Dean St., altogether totaling 83,032 square feet.
- The former Hein-Werner manufacturing facility at 1005 Perkins Ave. and 1200 National Ave., Waukesha, totaling 189,889 square feet.
- The 17,071-square-foot Charcoal Grill building at 111 W. Ryan Road in Oak Creek.
- 9563 S. 60th St., Franklin, a 22,650-square-foot warehouse.
- 8576 Highway 51 plus three attached parcels in Minocqua, totaling 3,160 square feet.
Seibel said the properties went on the market in early January, adding that there has been significant interest from prospective buyers. He said that one is already under contract to sell, but did not specify which.
The properties that aren’t being sold will be retained by either Dominic or Frank, said Seibel.
