Downtown Burlington hotel project gets SBA-backed loan

Burlington Hotel Group LLC, which plans to build a 54-room Hampton Inn hotel in downtown Burlington, has received a $1.446 million loan from the Wisconsin Business Development Finance Corp., and backed by the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to the SBA’s monthly loan report.
The city of Burlington is also providing a $1.5 million loan for the project.
The hotel will be built in the 400 block of Dodge Street at the Burlington Co-Op site.
The hotel is part of a larger redevelopment project for downtown Burlington. In addition to the hotel, the project includes a 45,000-square-foot building with office space and retail space and a parking structure.
The hotel, parking structure and mixed-use building make up the second phase of the city’s downtown revitalization efforts. The first phase was done about 10 years ago when the city acquired and cleaned up 20 properties on the Fox River. A river walkway was built and new development occurred near the river including the Boardwalk Apartments building and the Charcoal Grill restaurant.
